"Salvaged steel, hand-beaten into a new African modern."
Hamed Ouattara (b. 1971) works from Ouagadougou with recycled oil-drum steel, cutting, folding and welding it into cabinets, consoles and seats. His Dioulassoba and Ancestors series — held by Friedman Benda (NY) and Magnin-A (Paris), and shown at the Centre Pompidou — define a self-confident contemporary African design language rooted in materials of everyday West African life.
