Hugo França

"Slow-made, from trees that already lived a thousand years."

Hugo França spent fifteen years in the 1980s–90s living among the Pataxó in southern Bahia, learning to read fallen pequi-vinagreiro trunks. His ateliê in Trancoso transforms roots and fallen giants — never felled, always rescued — into sculptural benches and tables held by the Vancouver Biennale, Instituto Ling, and private collections from São Paulo to New York.
