Maarten Baas

"Time, smoke, and the slowness of the hand."

Maarten Baas (b. 1978) graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven in 2002 and immediately disrupted the design world with Smoke — burnt furniture sealed in epoxy. His Real Time clocks (man-with-a-broom, paint-on-glass) are in MoMA's permanent collection; the Carapace and Clay series are held by the V&A, Stedelijk, Rijksmuseum and Vitra Design Museum. Studio Maarten Baas works between performance, sculpture and serial production.
