Yukiya Izumita (b. 1966) works from the rocky north-east coast of Iwate, Japan. His Sekisō (Layers) series treats clay like folded paper — paper-thin sheets of stoneware stacked, bent and torn into vessels of extreme lightness and tension. Represented by Oxford Ceramics Gallery and Louis & Sack, his pieces are held in international private and institutional ceramic collections.
